“I used to be very proud of these Nirvana information,” Satriani informed Basic Rock in a current interview. “He was a terrific guitar participant. You return and take a look at Nirvana clips, and also you notice this man is taking part in all the things he’s purported to play. He’s not taking a look at what he’s taking part in, so clearly he actually is aware of the instrument.
“And he’s taking part in with one of many best drummers of all time [Dave Grohl], in order that wouldn’t have labored if he was not a great guitarist.”
When requested if the decline of guitar solos throughout the grunge music motion affected the way in which he determined to play guitar on the time, Satriani replied:
“I didn’t pay any consideration to that, I assume. [My 1992 album] The Extremist got here out as my love letter to the basic rock period, so it was a throwback report anyway, however once I emerged from the studio I noticed, ‘Oh, it’s all Nirvana and Soundgarden.’”
Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan shared an analogous sentiment about Cobain in a current interview, telling Wall of Sound:
“To folks exterior of our world, they discovered it very complicated. As a result of, particularly within the ’90s, when you have been within the metallic lane, you have been within the metallic lane. Now, it’s understood that folks [can be] cross-genre artists. However again then, it was like, different [musician] taking part in heavy guitar with solos? Heretical…”
“You already know, Kurt Cobain would play taking-the-piss solos. It’s all good as a result of he was a terrific guitar participant, however that, kind of, was the mindset. I used to be like, ‘I wish to be Yngwie!’ I didn’t care what any different particular person thought. I simply wished to play as quick as attainable.”
