Guitar producer Gibson have launched a trailer for Iommi: The Godfather Of Heavy Metallic, an upcoming collection of movies celebrating the music and affect of Black Sabbath icon Tony Iommi.
“After the Summer time of Love started to fade, an ominous new sound emerged from the smokestacks of Birmingham, England,” say Gibson. “Tony Iommi was the architect of that sound – the person chargeable for the genre-defining riffs of Black Sabbath and a sound that will take over the world.
“Greater than only a new model of music, heavy steel turned a lifestyle – connecting tens of millions by means of a spirit of insurrection, ardour, and a relentless sound that refuses to fade.”
Among the many interviewees showing within the four-minute preview, which is soundtracked by Sabbath’s Kids Of The Grave, are Brian Could, Slash, Mike Bordin, Kirk Hammett, Dave Mustaine, Steve Vai, Scott Ian and Rex Brown, whereas Iommi himself reveals how horror films influenced Sabbath’s sound.
“He is the Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart of the riff,” says Zakk Wylde, longtime guitarist with the late Ozzy Osbourne. “You understand, between all of us that play guitar, that is just like the assembly floor for everyone.”
The movie collection launches as Gibon announce the reissue of the corporate’s first-ever signature pickup, the Tony Iommi humbucker, which was initially developed within the late Nineteen Nineties.
“I’m actually excited that Gibson’s bringing again my signature humbucker, they had been getting fairly laborious to seek out!” says Iommi. “This pickup happened after a whole lot of time spent in Nashville, simply experimenting with completely different setups to get that excellent tone and maintain from my favorite guitars.”
Iommi: The Godfather Of Heavy Metallic will present on Gibson TV’s YouTube channel this autumn.
