Telenovelas are wild, dramatic, and predictably sudden. Everybody has their secrets and techniques, and it’s by no means not time to witness all hell breaking free. It’s no shock that the most recent single from Honduran pop star Isabella Lovestory, named after the Mexican cleaning soap opera style, is gloriously melodramatic. “Tremendous sónica, cinemática/ Carismática, pero ella no tiene ethical/ Erótica, bomba atómica/ Ojo maquiavélico, mucha vanidad (Mua),” she sings over a creeping reggaeton beat and ominous synth blasts.
Within the video, directed by Charlotte Rutherford, Lovestory performs a glamorous shut-in that grows disturbingly obsessive about the dramatic reveals she binges and the tv that frames. We even get a enjoyable glimpse of those fake reveals with Lovestory taking part in a disgruntled teen who yells “Soy emo!!!” at her enraged household. Because the video progresses, it’s as if Cronenberg meets I Noticed The TV Glow. At one level, Lovestory turns into so consumed (actually) by the TV that she finally ends up getting knocked up by it, throwing up glittery purple goo, and giving beginning to her personal tiny TV-headed child that performs the identical telenovelas she was enthralled by. It appears the apple doesn’t far fall from the tree.
“Telenovela” is the third launch this 12 months from Isabella Lovestory, following “Putita Boutique” that includes Argentina’s TAICHU and the collab with PinkPantheress and Shygirl on “True Faith.”
