With Naive Melodies, I needed to highlight the deep and infrequently ignored affect of Black music on the sound of Speaking Heads, drawing from the rhythmic foundations of Afro-diasporic traditions, soul, gospel, Latin, and religious jazz. This venture is an opportunity to reimagine Speaking Heads’ legacy by means of the lens of the very improvements that helped form it, bringing these influences to the forefront by means of the voices of right now’s most forward-thinking artists.
